The Stroker Ace
"Just cause I don’t run my mouth don’t mean I got nothing to say." - Mike Cooley
I said I'd update every weekday... that hasn't happened, not on this blog anyway.
Head on over to my Tumblr and see some things I consider cool. I update it on a much-more regular basis. Once shows start happening in the spring again, I'll be posting photos again.
Our family lost our grandfather on Saturday. He had a hard-fought battle with Alzheimers for several years. Very few people in this world are stronger than my father, but Grandpa was one of 'em - and probably the reason my father is.
There's a song by the Drive-By Truckers called "Daddy's Cup". It's a story of how a father taught their child everything they could, including the intangibles.
I won't post the song, you have to dig for it. Besides, if you don't own the Drive-By Truckers' record The Dirty South, you should get it. 'Til then, I leave you with a couple lines from the song.
The first time that I raced my qualifying was a shame
I started out way in the back and came back about the same
I pulled her in the pit, couldn't look my Daddy in the eye
He said "If you quit now son, it's gonna haunt you all your life"
It ain't about the money or even being #1
You gotta know when it's all over you did the best you could've done
Knowing that it's in you and you never let it out
Is worse than blowing any engine or any wreck you'll ever have
Great tune from Shotgun Jimmie. He put out a solid record last year called Still Jimmie, which I'm still playing on a regular basis.
The video is by Mitch Fillion, the mad man behind Southern Souls. Dude has a lotta time and money invested in the project. From what I can tell, he doesn't want any advertising on his site. He's got a donation link at the bottom of the page. I'll be donating next month, because he's doing something pretty great. The audio on all the videos are top shelf quality. Help him out, scroll to the bottom of the page and donate.
